In the research group of Prof. Dr. Timmann-Braun in the neurology department, we are looking for a medical doctoral student for the project ‘Pain integration in patients with cerebellar degeneration’.
The project is part of TRR289 ‘Treatment expectation’ (https://treatment-expectation.de/), a consortium which aims to unravel the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms behind placebo and nocebo effects. In this project, you will examine how degeneration of the cerebellum affects the integration of pain expectation and sensory input. To this end, you will collect behavioral data in 30 patients with cerebellar degeneration and 30 healthy adult controls, who receive painful heat stimuli to the forearm in a pain paradigm. Additionally, you will be involved in data collection of the related patient study of the group project.
We are looking for a student who is:
• Interested in neuroscientific research, as well as working with patients and healthy controls.
• Careful, patient and meticulous.
• Preferably in the 1st or 2nd clinical semester (but not required).
Furthermore…
• Computer skills are a plus.
• Willingness to take a Freisemester is an advantage, but not required.
• A prerequisite is that the thesis is written in English, as the main supervisor of the project is not a native German speaker.
A position as student help (SHK) is available for 6 hours per week for 12 months. The preferred starting date is the 1st of August, 2026.
